Event Title: Kalaeloa Veteran's Day Show and Shine
Wednesday, November 11, 2009
Time: 10:00 AM HST
|
|
All the details were not available at the time the newsletter was published and I was charge to be the contact with the Mustang Club. Below is the information I have received regarding the Car Show at the Kalaeloa Veterans Center . This event is scheduled for next Wednesday. If you are not participating in the Wahiawa Veteran's Day Parade, your support at the Veterans Center will be appreciated as the participants of the parade will not arrive until after the show has started.
On Wed. Nov 11, Veterans Day, the Aloha Mustang & Shelby Club is going out to the Veterans Initiative Shelter at Kalaeloa from 10 am to 2 pm. CCOH has joined the Aloha Mustang & Shelby Club in the past in supporting the Veterans Shelter and will continue to do so in the future. In the past, a hotdog picnic lunch was served to the residents and staff, but another service group has already requested and volunteered. There will still be a hotdog lunch served to the participants of the car show but lunch will not be served until the Wahiawa Veteran's Day Parade participants arrive. The Mustang Club has the hot dogs and grills. Any "side" such as chips & dip and desserts are welcome.
Background information about the Kalaeloa Veteran's Initiative Shelter - The Hawaii Initiative Veterans Shelter is a temporary residence for homeless Hawaii Veterans that also provides job and substance abuse counseling. They have an amazing success record in getting Veterans off the beaches and/or long term assistance and back out in the workforce.
The Mustang Club sends their apologies for the late notification of this event and in getting this information us. The delays were due to the shelter being petitioned by another volunteer group. The staff said, however, that the car show was one of the most popular events during the year for the residents and brought in much need donation items, so they have asked for us to return.
Below is a list of items needed for donation. Please kokua and give from your heart.
Paper products - paper towels, tissues, paper plates, writing paper, toilet paper.
Pens, pencils, writing paper, envelopes, stamps.
Toiletries - toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, razors, shaving cream, bar soap, NO MOUTHWASH (has alcohol).
Cleaning supplies - cleaners, disinfectant, sponges, towels, brooms, mops.
Games - puzzles, cards, checkers, chess.
Outdoor games - football, soccer balls, Frisbees, bats and softball.
Gift certificates (for use as prizes at the Center) - $10-$15 increments for Longs, Safeway, Ross', etc.
